all fours is my first venture into miranda july but i think it was the right entry point for me.

i l o v e d i t.

my one-liner summary: what starts as a solo road trip without her husband and young child detours into an unexpected sexual awakening and possible existential crisis.

the way she writes about desire - raw. captivating. awkward. deeply hilarious.

i love the way july turns the mundane (like a phone call or a gas station stop) into something captivating.

i also loved the very natural way that july includes referencing the character’s non binary child.

the scene where she watches herself in the hotel mirror? uncomfortable and hypnotic and impossible to look away.

this book was un-put-down-able.
