B O O K.

LOCK EVERY DOOR. riley sager

by the time i started this book, i had a decent idea of sager’s blueprint. i was skeptical of certain characters right off the bat, semi-certain i knew how things would be playing out.

i was 48% right, but missed a big one. in a lot of ways, this book felt super realistic… like it probably happens in some upper echelon style communities. it also would make for a great thriller movie.

SHOW.

i was kind of captivated from the start of the show. the car accident and resulting death left so many questions just in the first few minutes. i love the stereotypical neighborhood creepy old witchy woman (bat woman, what a name!) and the way the town has created so many stories around her existence is very nostalgic. as a jersey boy, i love that Coban brings his own jersey roots into the stories - using new jersey as the location for this was a win for me.

non-spoiler comment: i love that Coban used the name of his own local hospital as the hospital name in the show.

it’s also so nice to see more and more queer representation without it being the focal point!!!!! i love that the queer relationships are just existing in this show the same way the hetero relationships are. there is not a huge dramatic focus on them, it just feels normalized.
